BOB MAZZUCA CAMPFIRE BOWL RESTORATION PROJECT

The restored campfire bowl was dedicated on July 16, 2011 and it looks great!  We were happy to have Bob Mazzuca and his wife Nanette present at the event.  A special thanks to all our donors and all the troops and OA members who took part in restoring the campfire bowl.  A big cheer to Mark Ellis, Architect, and Paul Kershing, Construction Manager, for making it happen!

The campfire bowl is one of Pico Blanco's key focal points. It is where campfires are held and major gatherings are conducted for many of the programs at camp. Programs at camp include Boy Scout Summer Camp, Cub Scout Resident Camp, National Youth Leadership Training, Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend Family Camps, Camp-O-Rees, and Order of the Arrow functions in addition to weekend troop camping. Please note that in addition to the campers from our immediate area, hundreds of Scouts from throughout the West Coast attend Pico Blanco each year.  Esselen Lodge has taken on the job of restoring this bowl to its original design while improving it at the same time. Phases 1, 2, 3 and 4 are complete!  For more information, please visit the following links: Work weekends and project info, Videos and Pictures, Monterey Bay Area Council's Campfire Bowl Page

If you wish to attend any of the upcoming weekends for Phases 4 & 5, which we would really appreciate, please contact Jim Bowles at himlyn@sbcglobal.net with a subject title that clearly shows the email to be about this project. We really need all of the help we can get and would love to have you join us. Thank you.
